DEFENT, in partnership with the City of Los Angeles, is committed to ensuring that defentla.com is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe access to public health information and harm-reduction resources is a fundamental right, and we work to remove barriers that may prevent residents from receiving DEFENT ONE fentanyl detection devices through this program.
Our Commitment
We strive to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, cognitive, motor, and neurological conditions.
This program is funded by the City of Los Angeles and follows City of LA accessibility procurement requirements, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Conformance Status
defentla.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that most parts of the content fully conform to the accessibility standard, but some items are still being remediated. Those items are listed below under “Known Limitations.”
Detailed Conformance Report (VPAT)
For procurement officers, accessibility auditors, and technical reviewers who need a detailed line-by-line conformance evaluation for each WCAG 2.1 success criterion, please download our full Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT):
DEFENT LA — Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT)
Version 2.4 — WCAG 2.1 Level A and Level AA conformance report.
Issued May 12, 2026. Next review November 12, 2026.
The VPAT contains technical conformance ratings (Supports / Partially Supports / Does Not Support / Not Applicable) for all WCAG 2.1 success criteria. If you need this document in an alternative format, please email support@defent.com.
Accessibility Features
Across the site, we have implemented the following accessibility features to support users with disabilities:
Keyboard Navigation
- All interactive elements are reachable and operable using only a keyboard
- A visible “Skip to content” link appears when navigating with the keyboard
- Focus indicators are clearly visible on every link, button, and form field
- The Enter and Space keys both toggle checkboxes and radio buttons in forms
Screen Reader Support
- All images include descriptive alternative text, or are marked as decorative
- Form fields announce their label, required state, and validation errors
- Form sections are grouped semantically to provide context to assistive technology
- Validation errors are announced through accessible live regions
- Multilingual content (Russian, Armenian, Chinese, Korean, Hebrew, Farsi, Spanish, French, Portuguese) is marked with proper language attributes for correct pronunciation
Visual Accessibility
- Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA color contrast requirements
- Content reflows at 200% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling
- Page structure uses proper heading hierarchy for navigation
- The site respects the user’s “reduced motion” browser preference
Forms and Checkout
- The checkout form supports browser autofill via standard HTML autocomplete attributes
- Required fields are clearly marked both visually and to assistive technology
- The ZIP code field includes autocomplete suggestions and clear error messages
- Mobile users see the correct keyboard type for each field
- Long policy disclosures are presented as separate paragraphs linked to consent checkboxes through ARIA descriptions
Known Limitations
We are aware of the following accessibility issues and are actively working to resolve them. If any of these affect your ability to use the site, please contact us using the information at the bottom of this page and we will provide an alternative.
- Home page video. Captions are being added to the DEFENT ONE demonstration video on the home page. Target completion: June 2026. A full text transcript is available below the video.
- Local Pickup page. Pickup location information is currently shown in an image. We are converting this to accessible HTML text. Target completion: June 2026. In the meantime, please email support@defent.com for pickup location details.
- Facebook tracking pixel. The Facebook tracking pixel currently has a non-empty alternative text attribute. This is being corrected. Impact: minor — does not block any functionality.
- Third-party language translation widget. The translation widget is maintained by an external provider and may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. We are evaluating accessible alternatives. Target completion: Q3 2026.
Assessment Approach
defentla.com has been evaluated for accessibility using the following methods:
- Automated testing: axe DevTools, WAVE (WebAIM), and Lighthouse Accessibility audits
- Manual keyboard testing: verification that all functionality is operable without a mouse
- Screen reader testing: NVDA with Firefox and VoiceOver with Safari
- Color contrast testing: WebAIM Contrast Checker and Stark
- Mobile testing: iOS Safari and Android Chrome with accessibility features enabled
We continuously monitor the site and re-test after each release to catch and fix accessibility regressions.
Compatible Browsers and Assistive Technologies
defentla.com is designed to be compatible with the following:
- Browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari (latest two major versions)
- Screen readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android)

Report an Accessibility Barrier
If you experience any difficulty accessing content or functionality on defentla.com, or if you have suggestions for how we can improve, please contact us. We respond to accessibility feedback as a priority.
Email: support@defent.com
When reporting an issue, it helps us if you can include:
- The page URL where the issue occurred
- A description of the problem
- The browser, operating system, and any assistive technology you were using
- Whether you were able to find a workaround
We aim to respond to accessibility reports within 5 business days and to address documented accessibility barriers within 30 days when feasible. Complex issues may take longer; in those cases, we will provide a workaround or alternative method of access while we work on a permanent fix.
